OUTSOURCING WORK CAN BENEFIT THE BUSINESS AND
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
San Diego, Calif.-
The Arc of San Diego is seeking companies who need assistance in fulfilling
assembly, packaging, and other types of fulfillment requests. By partnering with
The Arc businesses will be receiving reliable service while helping people with
disabilities obtain gainful employment and earn a paycheck.
With over forty years of experience and nearly 400 trained
workers, Arc is ready to meet the needs of local businesses. In four
production centers, known as Arc Enterprises, jobs are provided to those who
normally would be left out of the job market, people with disabilities. People
with disabilities have high unemployment rates around 80% and Arc Enterprises
focuses on providing jobs for that population. The Arc fulfills the needs of
businesses while fulfilling the dreams of their employees, people who truly find
joy in earning a paycheck for doing jobs that many others do not even want to
do.
In our current economic
situation, outsourcing can be a scary word for many people, but sadly it is a
reality forced upon many companies as they look to find creative ways to get
work done and increase profits. Outsourcing has negative connotations:
lost jobs, broken dreams, and the sense that companies only care about the
bottom line. But there is a way that companies can outsource in a positive
direction. The Arc of
San Diego recognizes the need companies have to outsource simple assembly,
packaging, and other types of repetitive handwork in order for their current
employees to focus on other work.
Jose Cuevas has worked at The Arc of San Diego for 17 years. He enjoys his
job for many reasons. “I like the money I make working. It makes me
happy to have a job and the Arc staff is great.”
Companies such as NewMetro Design, whose company
has the BeaterBlade packaged and shipped at Arc Enterprises, utilizes Arc’s
services because of their commitment to quality and to help provide jobs for
people with disabilities. “They are able to get the job done for us as our
business continues to expand and we can do something positive in our community,”
said Gary Fallowes, President of NewMetro Design.
The Arc of San Diego is the largest, most comprehensive service provider for
people with disabilities in San Diego County. Founded in 1951, Arc now
serves over 2,500 children and adults with disabilities such as autism, cerebral
palsy, epilepsy, and Down syndrome each year.
