San Diego Career Centers announce athlete and actor Cameron Clapp as guest speaker at Navigator Business Breakfast – Thursday, March 11, 2010

The San Diego Career Centers are proud to present the Navigator Business Breakfast and the opportunity to hear from guest speaker athlete and actor Cameron Clapp.

Mr. Clapp has been featured in numerous national and international news programs and publications including The TODAY Show, CBS Evening News, CBS Early Show, The New York Times, Discovery Channel’s Medical Incredible, and CNN.  He’s acted in the feature film Stop-Loss starring Ryan Phillipe, HBO’s Emmy award-winning original series Carnivale, and NBC’s hit comedy My Name is Earl.

On September 15, 2001, four days after the tragedy of 9/11,15-year old Cameron Clapp experienced his own devastating tragedy – after an evening of underage drinking with his twin brother, Cameron was struck by a train and lost both legs and his right arm in the accident.  He was told by members of the medical community that he would never walk again, but Cameron proved them wrong just five months after the accident by walking independently with two prosthetic legs and competing in an athletic event only four months later.

Area business and community leaders, human resource managers, and educators are invited to hear Mr. Clapp speak Thursday, March 11 from 8:00 – 10 a.m. at the University of San Diego Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA 92110.

Following the keynote speaker, local business leaders will participate in a panel discussion about the benefits and dispelling the myths of including people with disabilities into the workforce.  Statistics indicate workers with disabilities prove to be capable and dedicated employees who rarely miss work and who tend to make their work environment a better place to work for all related employees.

There is no cost to attend this event.  Reservations can be made by calling Dawna Morse at (619) 266-4214 or dawna@workforce.org.

Event partners include The Arc of San Diego, Able-Disabled Advocacy, the Department of Rehabilitation, and Goodwill Industries of San Diego County.

Navigator is a San Diego Career Centers program. Funding for the Navigator event was provided by the United States Department of Labor.
